Testimonials: Participants of The Singing Soul

“A cappella improvisation with David Hatfield takes you to unforeseen destinations of hilarity, weirdness, extraordinary harmony, and transcendence. This gifted facilitator can coax music out of your very pores. A cappella improvisation is a metaphor for life, creating harmony and rhythm out of whatever comes your way.”
~ J. Tissandier, Canmore, Alberta

"This exceeded my highest expectations. I had done no improvisation before and felt blocked in my own spontaneity.  I now know I'm carrying music, playfulness and spontaneity within me and feel confident at being able to tap into it.  David's facilitation skills, musicality, encouragement and playfulness are prodigious."

~ A. Pope, The Haven

“David knows something about the universe that I don’t know. But I can hear it. Fulfills a fantasy I didn’t know I had: harmony, rhythm, creation, blending, brilliance, and balance in song, all weekend long.”
~ T. Pillay, Toronto

“This was incredible. I was really mystified that such a large group of people could create such beautiful music on the spot despite such different levels of talent and experience.”
~ Pearson College Seminar on Youth Leadership, Victoria

“I truly believe that without his workshops I would not have had the confidence in myself as a singer and musician to record my first album.”
~ N. Thompson, Vancouver

"This workshop proved to be far, far more than my original expecations and the ability to bond on a deep and profound level with the other participants was an additional bonus.  I gradually released years of negative programming into a re-birth and transformation. I leave with a sense of peace, balance, and SHOUTING to the world a need to experience more fun, laughter and play.  Blessings for this wonderful and special healing."

~ S. Wells, London, U.K.

“I have felt voiceless most of my life. This is one more step to finding my voice.”

“David is a magic people crafter, called to help us give permission to ourselves to be ourselves. He invites us into sacred safe space in such a loving manner that it feels impossible not to respond from the heart - because he lays his on the line."

~ Kaz Amaranth, The Haven

"David Hatfield came to the musical theatre group I work with and presented The Singing in December of 2009. From the beginning I was impressed by the organic manner in which David shared the workshop. The work that he guided us through opened me in ways I had never imagined, with revelations and epiphanies! Improvisation has become the main influence in my life and I credit David with awakening that in me. I feel more alive and inspired now, one year later, than I ever have. At the moment I'm still a graphic designer, but in April 2011 I will embark on a cross-Canada tour, singing improvised a cappella with a looping pedal. It's a style that comes from David's teaching and my love of musical gadgets.                                                              ~ Doug Koyama, Quesnel, BC

"David's enthusiasm for his work is so very infectious. We all ‘caught the bug' and are now regularly meeting to improvise our sounds and continue with his great ideas. A truly liberating experience.”
~ I. Edwards, Auckland, New Zealand

“One of the best programs I’ve done here - the style & content opened a path to discovering the reward of risk & exploration. Playful but spiritual essence in its presentation.”
