Peace and Power: Teaching Brotherhood

Teaching Brotherhood focuses on the foundational, challenging, and deeply rewarding role available to male educators in mentoring the development of capable, responsible, life-loving boys and young men. The importance of participant’s own stories and experiences with masculinity will be highlighted as the starting place of such mentorship. Goals and practical skill building include:

  • Deeper insight into male gender socialization – positives and pressures
  • Teacher – Mentor: highlighting differences and similarities
  • Designing mentorship possibilities into existing teacher-student roles
  • Increased understanding of rites of passage
  • Designing rites of passage possibilities into existing school environments
  • Conflict transformation techniques very effective with males
  • Increased ability to work effectively with diverse male populations
Recommended group size: 35 participants. This session is male-only.
Format: 75% Interactive/ Experiential - 25% Lecture
